Machane Sinai- is a new program for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade at Temple Sinai. This program offers a camp style atmosphere with a focus on creating a fun learning environment. Machane Sinai will meet approximately 6 times during the school year on Sunday mornings.
The mainstay of our program for children in grades 4-6 are our famous “Lounge Nights.” Held once a month directly following Religious School, they are a chance for children to build community and have fun in a Jewish setting. We say kiddush & hamotzi, enjoy pizza & salad, play air-hockey, ping pong, foosball, Giant Jenga, and do awesome activities led by the Madrichim Teen Leaders. Our special events range from Shabbat Mystery Bus Ride, to rock climbing for Crohn's & Colitis and, of course, the hugely popular Chocolate Seder.
(Boys in Grades 4-6)
J-Crew is a new program for boys in grades 4-6 at Temple Sinai focused on helping them grow into strong, intelligent, and caring Jewish men by creating Jewish Community, and having a blast at Temple Sinai. Sports, technology, food & friends, this program is set to be amazing. Similar to our popular ‘Rosh Hodesh Girl’s Club’ we will meet several times this year immediately following Religious School on Mondays.
(Girls in Grades 4-6)
Temple Sinai’s “Girls’ Club” has grown significantly since its inception in 2007. This club was specifically created to provide a safe and nurturing environment where our girls can thrive. We gather once a month to do activities that strengthen the girls' self-worth as well as empower them within Jewish life. The girls enjoy sharing dinner together, saying our ritual blessing while wearing a tallit of their own design, discussing issues that affect them, and doing fun and artistic projects. We laugh, learn and grow together. We discover that true beauty really IS on the inside and that what matters most is how you treat someone, not what you're wearing. It's the kind of positive and nurturing environment that every young girl needs.
Club 7 meets several times a year for community-building activities such as GameTruck, tie-dyeing, and fun mitzvah projects led by teens from the senior youth group SORTY. The time is structured as a social gathering in a safe environment with the intent of creating bonds with Jewish peers and strengthening ties to the Temple. This program bridges the gap between JORTY and SORTY and maintains the continuity of youth participation at Temple Sinai. Plus it's a LOT of fun!
Our senior youth group is led by a peer-elected board. Officers gain professional experience through board meetings and the planning and implementation of various events. Highlights of our year-long program include NYC Overnights, the St. Chris Winter Jam, Purim Carnival, “Torah at your Table”, Mitzvah Day, NFTY events, and our annual Brotherhood Softball Game. Our February Break Tikkun Olam Trips are incredibly popular and have included destinations such as New Orleans, San Diego, Memphis, and Israel. This year, we are traveling to Israel.
(Undergrad & Grad)
To maintain our valued relationship with the numerous teens who have graduated from our program, we send email updates & holiday packages to them at college campuses across the country (and abroad!) Our packages include items such as The Scribe, letters from our clergy, postcards from the Director of Youth Engagement, sweet treats, ritual items, coffeehouse gift cards, and print material on Jewish volunteer & internship opportunities. Enrollment in our College Connection program also entitles students to BIRTHRIGHT PRIORITY REGISTRATION through the URJ Kesher trip provider.
